Our Story

Puerto Pro FC was formed in 2016 in Puerto Tejada, Cauca in the southern region of Colombia. This region largely known for its sugar production has more recently become synonymous with producing top quality football players.

Davinson Sanchez of Tottenham Hotspur, Cristian Zapata of AC Milan, Adrian Ramos of Granada, Yerry Mina of Everton and Duvan Zapata of Atalanta all herald from this small corner of Colombia spanning only a few square miles. They have collectively amassed a combined transfer fees total of over 200 million euros between them in the last few years alone.

Despite there being 1122 municipalities in the whole of Colombia this miniscule region with a population of around 45,000 and its surrounding towns adding a few thousand more, produces a disproportionately high amount of professional football players compared to the rest of the country.

A recent study concluded that 65% of Colombian professional football players originate from this region. Despite the region being rich in natural talent and Colombia being rivalled only by Brazil as the biggest exporter of quality players worldwide, with agents and professional clubs alike having exploited its human resources for decades, Puerto Tejada did not have its very own football club.  The town was crying out for something that they could call their own, somewhere they could showcase their home-grown talent without being exploited unfairly.

Hence, Puerto Pro FC was born.

It was founded by Daniel Gomez an ex professional player who played at the top level both in Colombia and Europe and who holds UEFA’s top coaching license and is also a coach educator.  Daniel has implemented a fertile learning environment, for both players and coaching staff using his wide range of experience in football, thus creating a family orientated club, with the highest standards maintained both on and off the pitch.

This has continued to attract the best young players in the region and created a real sense of support and belonging among the locals. In the short time since its conception Puerto Pro FC has attracted positive attention far and wide for its footballing philosophy of dynamic attacking football born from natural Colombian flair, combined with European tactical awareness and organisation.

Puerto Pro FC has become the go to club for the many professional teams in the region to play against preseason or in practice games and despite its players all being under the age of 20 and most being under the age of 18, they are a much respected and highly rated opponent. It is also common for top professionals who are out of contract or recently retired to come and train with Puerto Pro FC such is the quality and level of professionalism exercised throughout the club.

As Puerto Pro FC continues to form young players for numerous professional clubs as well as the Colombian national teams, it is increasingly being regarded as a hot bed of talent in Colombia with its teams competing successfully in all age groups from U-12s to U-20s.
